mini 14 accuracy

I heard that if you take the upper gas block off and polish it on a smooth flat service it would increase accuracy . any truth to this ? How does it increase accuracy. Thanks Steve

    I was reading thru the archives an found a posting that said that you take the upper gas block and polish it down smooth on glass or some other really straight smooth surface.with very fine emery cloth. my question is what does this have to do with the accuracy and how does it help. Thanks Steve

    Good luck getting it back on! The factory recommends no consumer disassembly of the gas block for that reason.

    Ruger doesnt recommend removing it but it is not hard to get back together. I took mine apart and put a smaller bushing in it so it wouldnt throw the brass as far. Go to www.perfectunion.com they have a forum for the mini 14 and the guys over there can help you out.
