help with ar-15
I am wanting to get an AR-15 for a reasonable price and was wanting to know if olympic firearms/atlantic firearms are a good brand I haven't heard anything about these brands.

they are decent as is PAC west arms, i think both made replacement receivers for the US Govt as did/does QPC
i have seen Quality Parts Co (Bushmaster) around locally darn cheap for a post ban model.0 -
Here I go again! An AR-15 is a Colt product, which was discontinued about 20 years ago when the Colt AR-15A2 was introduced. No other manufacturer but Colt made an AR-15.
If you want an AR-15-type Post-Ban clone, the brands mentioned are serviceable for the money. I like the ArmaLite clones the best, with Bushmaster a very close second. Oly guns seem to be a notch or three below. Others may disagree with my rankings or favorites.
What is a "reasonable price?" By definition, a "reasonable price" would be a rifle priced at the going market price so that should not be a problem. An "unreasonable price" would be a rifle priced above or below the going market price.
I would suggest buying a Pre-Ban Colt so you will have the "real thing" and the value will remain even if the ban sunsets, but then I have a bias towards all things Colt.0 -
Judge Colt, Sir I suggest that we give up our quest to educate the GB members about copyright and trademark laws because the AR-15 confusion saga has continued on now for years! That along with your eternal struggle to expalin that handguns have STOCKS and are not fitted with GRIPS appears to be a loosing Battle. Mike B, I happen to be a Colt LE dealer and make my living selling their product so I am biased to the Hartford Horsie. On the other hand I happen to own a large number of Bushmaster AR rifles for my own shooting uses and find them to be well made. The newer Armalite rifles have a solid reputation with many shooters but I have no hands on experience with that product line. I sold and owned several Olympic Arms rifles many years ago and found that their quality was not quite up to the same levels as the major brands, but they were good shooters and were less costly.

I envision you hunched over your keyboard, fingers smoking and a small lightning shaped vein throbbing in the center of your forehead ... Well, I know it sez ask the experts, and I NEVER call myself an expert at anything, but --- I have owned almost every possible configuration of AR-15 (sorry Judge!). If you want the real deal with good future value, of course, it's the Colt. After that I vote Bushmaster, Armalite, etc., etc., which are good if ya wanna shoot the damn things. I even had a project gun that consisted of all kinda names....It shot great! Resale was not an issue for me...
I have several Colt prebans that I "cherish" and are good investments.
(Bought my first Colt AR15 SP1 in Middletown, NY in 1983 for $350.00. Worth AT LEAST triple that now...)
The question to answer is "what is the gun for?"
And finally,
You get what you pay for as a general rule.
