benli whats up with the kick

I just got a benil nova and switching from an older mosburg I noticed a big change in the amount of kick.I just want to know if there is any way to stop this and what causes it.

    Well I had 1 and the only way to get rid of the kick was to trade it for a Remington 870. I'm not being a smart a$$ here. It is truly the only way I could find.

    buy the recoil reducer. makes a big difference.

    Get a good recoil pad and port the barrel!!!!!! It will drop by 40-60%

    16..... The reason your shotgun has more felt recoil is the Nova is a lighter gun than your previous one.

    Benelli uses light weight alloys in their guns. This allows the gun to "jump" more when the shot is fired.

    I shoot a lot of 3-gun competition and use the Benelli Super-90.
    The recoil does not bother me, but one of my shooting buddies cant take it so he preferes the Rem 1100. The added weight of the 1100 will tame the recoil somewhat.

    All of the above suggestions will help.

    im sorry it happened to you but it happens a lot. people buy bennellis because 'everyone has one' and then they find out...ooops! they kick! then they got to dump another 100.00 in gizmos to correct it. such is the market. what a lot of people wont tell you about those bennellis is that the action is one of the oldest around...and for the most part, everyone evolved away from it. matter of fact, in a field test, the browning A-5 bead it out for less recoil back around 1905 and FN dropped its interest in the sjogren 12 and built the A-5 instead. your gun is a copied design from the swedish sjogren interia 12 that the italains dug up after the war. its called an interia blowback system. the housing on top hides the bolt that comes flying back and rams the frame and then is spring loaded back into battery. correct me if im wrong, but the bbl is stationery. that means all the energy is put into the bolt! kapowie! thats....why it kicks. yes, you can tame it with gizmos. but you wont see me shooting one! give me my old winchester M-50 any day. see, theres a blowback bolt design that dips at the end of its journey, sending the recoil into the grip, and not your arm!     ooops. see what i get being away from books and records? the mind is always the first thing to go. and whats this about the "once again" thing? hehehe. nova....pump....kick...alloy frame well...duh! of course it kicks! bennelli made those guns for field use. less wt to carry and more ouch for a full pouch! them eye-tallians...what a bunch of great gun makers!

    I don't think even the SBE (the inertia-recoil semi-auto) kicks harder than my gas semi-auto's did. They do kick differently, but not harder in my opinion. I have owned a lot of 12 gauges over the years and now I only have the Super Black Eagle and it would honestly be the very last gun I'd get rid of (because of its versatility) so that should say something...
    I also like thier lower comparitive weight compared to some of the others, which can add to felt recoil. If one doesn't like the recoil from a standard 12 gauge load then they sure wouldn't want to shoot 3 1/2" mags. That said, the mercury recoil reducers work as does a better recoil pad if you desire them.

    Different guns for different shooters...

    My Benelli M1014, shooting a 3" slug doesn't bother me, but the same setup brusies my friend...

    It may have to do with the way you address the gun. I read in either Guns & Weapons or SOF where some "expert" was saying that by pulling forward as you shoot you reduce felt recoil my some huge amount, even advocting holding the shotgun away from the shoulder (?).

    Haven't tried any of that stuff and am skeptical, but it does reinforce the point that stance and grip on the gun could play a part in felt recoil...

    pulling forward? sounds like something an expert goon at 'sof mag' would suggest! lets see...push gun forward and lose sight alignment. what ever happened to 'not anticipating recoil' as part of basic marksmanship? though our friend meant well by posting and i agree with his skepticism, i for one would contest the idea of pushing a gun forward. recoil is suppose to be an afterthought to the shot. my final suggestion is to add wt. to the gun or buy a heavier gun.
