I moved from Montana in 1987. It was pretty much wide open then and I don't think it has changed much. I go back about once a year to visit and none of my heat packin' buddies have told me about any changes. As for Colorado I don't have a clue. Hope this helps.

Montana is fine and so is most of Colorado. Keep in mind that a number of Colorado localities have their own firearms regulations and I know that Denver has an assault weapons ban and high capacity magazine ban in place. Altough there are nearly always exceptions to these laws for FFL dealers to receive assault weapons, if this is going to be a third party transaction- you ship the AK to a Colorado dealer who then transfers it to the buyer, there could be trouble in Denver.

I live on the western slope of Co.and recently
recieved my ccw permit. I am pretty up to date on state gun laws.
In reading this topic I see that it's mentioned about Hi-caps being
banned in denver,I often carry a para tac-four and it has a 13 rnd.
mag.Is this going to be considered illegal?

As far as buying an AK in Co. it's not a problem anywhere I know of
other than Denver city limits. I know out here in the wild western slope you can still buy-own just about anything.[8D]

It appears that Denver's definition of a high capacity magazine is set at a very generous 20 rounds so only those magazines holding 21 rounds or more would be restricted within Denver's jurisdiction.

In the interest of accuracy, I would remind folks that an AK-47 is the designation for the original select-fire asssault rifle. The commercial, civilian semi-auto rifles are generically referred to as AKS.

Given the penchant of the gun grabbers to call all of them AK-47s, to our prejudice, it is a good idea if we continue to be gentlemany with them about the correct terminology.
