What do you know about the Argentine 49

Looking at an Argentine model 49 in .308. Does anyone know about these? I couldn't find any on Gunbroker. Here's the link I was looking at.

    The FN49 is a predecessor to the FAL. They are fine weapons albeit without a detachable mag. They are available in 30-06, 7mm, and 8mm.

    Now comes a variant that is .308 and has a detachable mag. Whether this actually came from the factory this way (importer hype) or was an inservice modification (likely) just about makes them perfect.

    Looks like a really neat rifle.

    The current ads say that this is the first time they have ever been in the US. Interesting, given the fact that they were available in the US and being sold in 1995-1996. The ones that I handled were nice pieces. Supposedly they were converted by the FN engineers from Belgium. The conversions were done in Argentina. The original rifles were 7.65ARG and converted to .308. They made them a detachable mag system at the same time. Never talked to anyone that had any problems with them, but I didn't have that many of the guns at the time either. Magazines will be a trick, but they probably can be converted from FAL mags with some work. I never tried to convert any at that time, but the current ads don't mention that they have any additional mags for sale. Take that into consideration before getting too excited.

    They are excellent rifles. FN provided the conversion kits and the actual conversions were done in Argentina. Magazines are hard to find, currently Sarco has some- Grade A $74.95, and Grade B $64.95. These magazines were demilled by denting the body, the dents were pulled out but you can still see where they were dented. FN/FAL mags are completly different, it would be quite a chore to adapt them to fit a FN49. The muzzles are threaded and have muzzle caps that are welded on. They have been imported before.
