If you go to a site called www.9mmlargo.com and look for an item called "Spanish Date of Proof Codes" or something close to that, you should be able to find the date of proof code and that will tell you the date the Llama was manufactured. Another (real crude) way is to see if it has a Stoeger import mark. That will tell you it was imported some time since the early '50s. Other than that, Llama information is pretty hard to find.
Does yours have a Colt 1911-style locking linked barrel like a Star .380 or is it straight blowback like a Colt 1903?
I like the pistols, although with Llama it seems that quality control fluctuates from year to year. But we've never seen anything like that in the good 'ol US gun industry, have we fellas?0 -
According to my reference the Llama "Especial" ( also known as the 3A ) was the circa 1955 modification of the pre World War II, Model #3.
A grip safety was added along with a modified manual safety, the grip frame was streamlined, a ventilated rib and alloy frame were also made available later in the production cycle.
Essentially the same pistol was in production as late as the mid 80's.
Don't know if the later versions had the "Especial" marking?0 -
3A's are linked barrel not blowback.
Every part is the same as Colt 1911 just smaller
