Remington BDL and Ammo

I was sighting in my BDL '06 with 150gr. Core-Lokt ammo. I was shooting 2 to 3" groups, which acceptable for the hunting I do, but I have to believe I can do better. I had more than a few "flyers" on target.

Question: What type of ammo does your BDL '06 like as far as accuracy?

    You didn't say what your hunting range normally is, so assuming its 50 to 200 yds I have found two factory ammo types very accurate in the 30/06 Remington 165gr PTD SP & the 180gr SP. If you do your part the normal with this ammo is about 1" at 100 yds.

    YOU ALSO DIDN'T SAY WHAT RIFLE YOU HAVE; A 742 BDL IS A LOT DIFFENT THAT A 700 BDL. I WOULD ALSO TRY SOME OF THE PREMIUM TYPE AMMO (FED. PREMIUM W/ NOSLER BT BULLETS COMES TO MIND). YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.

    Good point! Let me get specific.

    I was using a Remington 700 BDL 22" in '06. I normally site in at 100 to 200 yards depending on where I hunt.

    I have no problem with getting a 1 MOA with some of my other "shootin' irons" so I like to think it is not me.

    I was really just wondering if there was a consensus on ammo for this rifle. I had never used the Core-Lokt before and the results are mixed. I usually use Hornady.

    I also have a Rem 700 bdl in 30-06 made in 1968.Believe this or not,with Rem. 150 gr. core lokt psp this rifle will shoot 3 shot sub 1/2" groups at 100 yds.I cannot even handload to equal this.All rifles are different though,and what works well in one may not in another identical one.Try various brands and weights until you find one it likes.
