mag cap for 1100 12 gauge work on 870 20 gauge?

As the title says, will the magazine screw-on cap (that holds the forearm on the 1100 12 gauge) work on an 870 20 gauge?
I ask because I have one new in the package, but sold the gun without using it, but a friend has the 870 and if it'll work I'll give it to him as a Christmas gift...

  if you measure the thread diameter I'll pull out my 870 and measure the threads and tell you if they match. I have a strong suspicion that they will match.

  I don't have a caliper, but if a tape-measure will be enough I'll grab it tomorrow evening (it's in the attic and the access is right above our bedroom, the wife's asleep)...
