Remington vs Savage

Hey whats up everyone, fairly new here so dont mind any dumb comments. In the next 3 months I will have a new 22-250 varminter, but which model I still cant decide on. Ive been looking at a Remington 700 vssf and a Savage 12bvss. I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions, I know that Savage has an amazing new trigger system, but a Remington 700 (at least in my book) is a legend among legends, but still 300 more. Out of the box accuracy is my biggest requirement(with factory ammo, 6 more months before reloading)next to probable life of the gun with better than average upkeep. Looks dont matter, obviously, as I am considering a Savage

    Im gonna buy a new .270 pretty soon. I have found two that look pretty good: the Savage model 111G and the Remington 700 Adl. Any feed back on these would be very helpful.Thanks

    You will not go wrong with either one, I am a Savage fan (but I have my share of Rem's too. Think at this point its just a matter of $$.

    If I had a choice it would be Savage, only beacuse of there Custom shop. They are easy to work with. IE, if you change your mind on a differant chamber/Cal. send it to them and they will do what ya wish.

    Remingtons are usually better platforms to build precision/target rifles from, but a lot of times the Savage will be more accurate right out of the box depending on the model and caliber.

    A remington 700vls can be had for about the same price as the 12bvss. I have the 12bvss in 300wsm. paid close to $600 with tax. The vls can be had for just about the same. The new savage trigger has a lot to be desired. I am sending mine to sharpshooters savage specialties after deer season and making a full blown custom out of mine. Douglass barrel, their synthetic stock, a new trigger, new recoil lug and bedding job. Mine is accurate now. Shoots the winchester 150bst into .5 moa groups with the best being .427. I just want to get a premium barrel. Mine is fluted and cant be turned down. Want a straight taper but not a full blown bull barrel. The remingtons are accurate too. But try to find a pre- j lock model if possible.

    Depends on the topic and the day I guess[:D]

    PS: Bluecollar, back to the topic at hand, you might check out the Choate stock for the Savage if you go that route. The only complaint I've heard (and said) about the Savage is the light and flexible stock that comes with them from the factory.

    Not an expert. But I can say the Rem. 700 vssf is an awesome shooter.

    I had a Remington VSSF in .220 Swift and it was my only factory rifle to ever shot under 1/2" at 100 yards. Who knows if their others would be that good however.
    The Savage is a good shooter and is cheaper so if money is a big deal then I'd take the Savage and wouldn't think twice.
    Especially if you're thinking about reloading, I'd consider getting a .220 Swift instead of the 22-250. The Swift can be loaded down easily to lower levels, but can also be hotloaded much hotter (which will shorten barrel life). With factory ammo the difference is 200 fps I think. Anyway, they're both good but thought I'd mention it since some people aren't aware of it.

    you get what you pay for. savage has come a long way and are excellent rifles. remingtons have the proven time tested reputation and resale value. the sako tikka continental rifle in 22-250 would be another rifle to check out. it shoots right along with my 6mm. a good trigger makes a world of difference....it doesnt make the rifle shoot any better, it makes "you" shoot it better. iam a firm believer in the ultimate "fart-trigger". [:p]

    If you are concerned with accuracy, then go with the savage. I have one and it is very accurate, and the trigger is great. I have been burned before buying high price rifles, then having them shoot worse then a lower priced model, so I don't buy the "will hold their value better" line. Also, the Savage will shoot a wide variety of factory ammo well, and since you're not yet handloading, this is a plus.

    I have a Remington vls in 243. Accuracy is great with handloads.
