7mm deer gun

This is kind of the wrong place to ask this but the other forum is too crowded. I am trying to decide between a Remington 700 BDL SS DM, Browning A-bolt stalker w/boss, and a Browning BAR w/boss.
I am only looking at 7mm rem mag for it's power and flat trajectory.
I am concerned with value and accuracy. I am not a confident long range shooter now but I want to be so I want a rifle that has the accuracy to do it.

    I think you'll find that alot of people would say that the Remington 700 would be a very good rifle for deer. I don't know off the top of my pointy little head if they come in 7mm, but assuming they DO, it would, I believe, be a fabulous choice!

    I have a 700 VLS in .308 I use for target-shooting, and it's a fine rifle---finest thing I've ever owned, actually.

    Sad, ain't it? (grin)

    Oh, and by the bye: this is actually a very GOOD place to get opinions on shootin' irons, so you came to the right spot. The folks who post here are generally very knowledgable, and the breadth of experience is invaluable.

    If you do not expect to shoot over 150yds get the BAR. If longer shots are expected go with the A-Bolt. Just my 2 cents.

    But why 7mm mag of all the mags choices that are out there? You limit yourself from hunting any big bad Alaskan game if you ever venture up that way. If it were me I would go with .338 WM as a minimum if it is going to be true magnum rifle. If you are only going to hunting white tail in the lower 48, then go with a .270 Win. It has far less blast and is just as flat shooting as the 7mm mag. Heck even a .280 if you are set up for reloading.

    A-Bolt or Remington 700 are both great choices.

    Just my 2 cents.

    The Tikka T3 promises a 1" moa accuracy. I like the 700 BDL also but the group may or may not be as accurate. With the Tikka you know for sure. The 7mm is a good choice. You can hunt about anything with it. Anything more than that is overkill for deer. I myself like overkill but it is not needed.

    Ask Cletus85 in the general forum. He got his deer with it yesterday and seems to love it. I have handled them and love the feel and balance. My next gun will be a T3.

    I have a Browning A-bolt Stainless Stalker in the 270Win. I have owned Ruger and Remington and by far this Browning is the most accurate. Took a 5x5 mule deer this year.I have a Ruger 7mm and prefer to use the 270 Browning for deer hunts.

    I use to hunt with a Remmington 7mm bolt action (stopped hunting years ago, so I don't remember the model). It's an extremely accurate gun. Out of the choices I had, .270, 7mm, 30-06 and 44mag. (father's stock pile), the 7mm performed the best at the range and would take whitetail without blinking. I never shot a T3. GL!

    Go with the 700 and you won't go wrong! One of the biggest reasons to go with it as compared to the other two you were going to choose from is that the 700 doesn't have one of those god-awful, muzzle breaks sticking on the end of it! And if somewhere down the road you want to rebarrel the action, the Remington is just plain more "gunsmith friendly" than the A-bolt! As far as semi-auto's go, it would be hard to beat a BAR but a bolt action is to me a more logical gun! As some have already stated, the 7mmMag is definitely enough gun!!! If all you plan to shoot is whitetails or mule deer or antelopes, a 25-06 would serve you fine with a bit less punishment! GHD

    GHD is being his usual diplomatic self. As to the choice of rifles, my opinion is any bolt action from the major manufacturers should serve you well. As to the caliber, come to Virginia and you can buy truckloads of 7 mags that were bought for deer and created hamburger !
