    A good question which no one can answer with a definite number but I have seen old army 1911's that must have had in excess of 50,000 rounds go through them. Yes the rifiling was almost gone but they still were reasonably accurate.

    I'm far from an expert, but one thing I did pick up from many sources is, a clean barrel will wear less. Clean it after every use.

    Just like the carpet in your house, it isn't walking on it that wears it down so much as the dirt abrading the fibers as you walk over it.

    The better question would be:
    1. How long will the barrel/gun last with the type of ammo i'm shooting out of it.
    a. Keeping it clean and lightly oiled, the whole gun not just the barrel.
    b. Put in a new recoil spring every 1000 to 2000 rounds depending on full power ammo or target ammo.
    c. Full power jacketed ammo 10,000+++rds.
    d. Lead target loads 50,000+++rds.

    As stated, it depends on the ammo and barrel used. Usually 15K-30K for ball ammo.

    Love them Beavers
