Winchester Classic = Adjusting the trigger pull?
any one have any ideas, open it up & all i see is a small nut that appears to be a jam nut.
i have adjusted the allen head set ups but this looks abit old? would like it quite abit lighter.

Sir, if you are referring to the Winchester M70, when you take the barreled action out of the stock and you are looking at the trigger assembly, the bottom lock nut on the threaded shaft is for adjusting the overtravel of the trigger. To adjust this, loosen the lock nut, you will need a small screwdriver to hold the threaded shaft from turning while you loosen the nut with a 1/4" wrench. Turn the shaft until it jams up against the bottom of the reciever, and then back off until the trigger will release the sear when pulled. Back off a small amount more and lock in place. Above the trigger there is a spring with two lock nuts below it, loosen the lock nuts, you will need two 1/4" wrenchs for this and back them off until you get the desired pull you want, then relock the nuts together.
If you are lucky, you can get down to a 3 lb. trigger pull. If not, you will have to find a lighter spring to replace the factory one. No one that I can find offers a spring for this separately. I have a spring kit that I bought from Brownell's that I cut them to fit from. The other problem is that the sear notches are usually too deep and require some careful stoning to reduce them for a creep free trigger pull.
If you are fearful that this is beyond your talents, you can replace the trigger with a fully adjustable one from several various manufactures. Or, you may want to take the gun to a professional smith and have him do the work. Good Luck on whatever you decide.
