7mm-300WM

Recently I was fortunate enough to stumble accross a gunsmith that makes custom guns, stocks, barrels, and everything. Each one is an absolute work of art. He has a used custom made by him, which is a lefthanded Remington 700 action chambered for 7mm-300WM. I was unfamiliar with this wildcat and when I enquired about it's ballistics he said it moves them out around 3200 FPS. I'm interested in the gun for 1000 meter shooting only, and I can't describe the beautiful craftsmanship that has went into the rifle, but it's very expensive, and it would need a world class piece of glass to properly top it off. Is the 7mm-300WM worth the effort and money for me? Thanks

    In my opinion, for long distance shooting, you would be better off with a straight .300 Win Mag or H&H Mag. Heavier bullets and enough velocity to do the job at 1,000 meters. I believe the Army long distance teams are now using the .300 WM with 200 gr. bullets.

    Thanks for the input, I was fishing around the nosler web sight and there are what appears to be some indications that it could get a 120 grain bullet moving at almost 3600 FPS. This rifle is quite pricy for me and I'd have to do some pretty extreme money moving around to pick it up, so thanks for the input.

    Custom rifles are a pi$$ poor investment, so you better know you want one before you buy one!

    I wouldn't exactly be looking at the resale on a left handed action, wildcat round, 26 inch bullbarreled, 1000 meter rifle. I would suspect that it would be a pretty small niche of the shooting world interested in it. Any thoughts on the ballistics of the round Cletus?

    On checking some load data it appears that the 7mm/300 will generate 150 fps faster, on average, than the standard 7mm Weatherby Magnum. I've never owned a Wildcat, but they do intrigue me. I am a big fan of 7mm's and would go for the 7mm over a .30 for just about any application.

    Ok, I'll show my ignorance of this particular subject... Why not just go with a .264 win mag instead (it's a .300 necked down I believe)
