AR-15 doubles and tripple fires
My new Oly AR15 intermittantly fires 2 and 3 rounds with a single pull of the trigger. It is brand new so I know it will be covered by the warranty, but if it is an easy fix I'd rather do it myself then send the whole damn thing back. I assembled several lowers so I know the ropes. Is the sear defective or something else? I tried severel diffrent ammo types and magazines, but it still fires two's and three's with a sinlgle trigger pull once in awhile. Help?

Update. I notice it double fires once about every 20-40 rounds, but it trippled one time at least. It is all factory parts, no full auto or 3-rnd burst parts in it at all! Seems to happen more often when I use the British 30 rnd steel mags. When I use USGI 20 rounders, it rarely produce the 2 or 3 round "burst". Why would a magazine have any effect? 0 -
Make sure the selector switch is pointing to "SEMI" rather than "BURST"[:o)]
Nope, the magazine won't affect the firing rate. Sounds like you might have a firing pin that is sticking, you might want to disassemble the bolt and carrier and make sure that there is no debris in the firing pin bore. You might also have dirt/debris on the sear which is not letting the sear engage the hammer fully and causing it to jump the notch and allow the hammer to follow the bolt home.

I've had this happen, for me the trigger pin walked out and after firing a shot when I would let go of the trigger the hammer would drop again. Open the upper and support the hammer with your thumb and pull and hold the trigger, then while holding the trigger push the hammer back to the disconnecter and see if it holds, then let go of the trigger and see if the hammer drops. Either one of the pins has walked out, the holes in the reciever are to large or the hammer or disconnecter are bad.
And look at above areas.

most likely your disconnecter is bad / chipped or could be the hammer is bad.
at any rate, its a dangerous situation if the gun fires before fully locked & a health risk if you have to explain to a judge why you have a gun that fires more then 1 shot per pull of the trigger, ignorance of the law is know excuse so they say.
i would look at the tip of the disconnector see if its chipped or the back of hammer where it engages.

I had this problem and it was the disconnecter spring jammed in it's hole. This allowed the sear to not fully engage and lock the hammer back. There were small ridges on the disconnecter spring hole and when the large end of the tapered spring would get low enough the spring would jam down,and not allow the sear to fully engage. A little emery stone work on the steel housing and everything works like it should.

I would send it back for warrantee work. Better to have them check it out and fix it than you to try and void the warrantee. Besides, maybe they will throw something in for your trouble. 0 -

Definitely get it fixed ASAP. The hammer on the AR can hit the firing pin without the action being in battery. Definitely wouldn't want that hammer to touch a round off a little early, there's no fixin' it after an kB![B)]

Problems solved. The Disconnector spring was staying compressed due to a few imperfections in the hammers channel where the spring resides. A dremmel fixed the problem. 0
