Remmington M540XR Target

Here's another one for my father in law, he has a cabinet full of guns but he doesn't even hunt or shoot. Wanting to know any information on Remmington "M540XR Target" 22 long rifle. When was it, or is it still made? Any idea of value? It is in excellent condition. I'm hoping this is the last of the guns I need to find out about.

    A lot of the value depends on what sights are on the gun. Gun alone $250-300. Sights could add very little or a couple hundred depending on what they are. Does it have the hand rail stop and a sling or slings?

    Thanks for responding, the gun has the hand stop and a wide leather strap or sling. The sights are Redfield adjustable peep.

    what type of Redfield? International Match, Olympic or other.

    Your 540xr was produced from 1974-1983. It replaced the 540x in which only 6975 guns were produced and built from 1969-1974 . 540x has a straight stock with built in rail on bottom. 540xr has a large position style stock. I own a 540x and they came with no sights. Value pends condition. These guns are bringing premium dollar. If you want a new Remington 22 target get out your wallet thru the custom shop. The 40x starts around 1500

    i just sold a 540x recently for $325 without the sites and mounts. then sold the mounts and sites for $100 (lyman sites)...hope this helps...tom

    Toolman, IF you ever get any more at that price, I will buy them all. There has not been a 540x for sale on GB since I have been a member. There is currently a 540xb on now.
