1895 Winchester

Does anyone know where I could get a mag follower for a 1895 in .405 win? I tried Buckingham. Thanks Paul

    A customer has brought me a 1895 Win it needs a new barrel do you know anyone that is qualified it can be a reproduction as long as it will shoot.

    An original (or replica) Winchester Model 1895 barrel is not something that can be easily located and bought (there are no commercial barrel makers that make them that I am aware of... market is just too small). A lot also depends upon whether it is a Rifle, Carbine, or Musket, and which caliber/cartridge that it is chambered for. How close to origial does he want it to be[?] I just happen to have a close friend who is one of the foremost (if not the single best) Winchester restoration person in existence. He can create an exact duplicate of the original barrel... including all the original factory markings (and is authorized by Winchester to do so), but his work is NOT cheap.

    Bert my customer doesn't care if its original all he wants is a barrell that will shoot it is a 30/06

    How much is he willing to spend[?]

    As I mentioned before, nobody makes aftermarket barrels (at least none that I am aware of) for the Model 1895... especially one that will fit the original forestock. Which variation is it... Sporting Rifle, Carbine, Musket, or NRA Musket? Finding an original barrel in good shooting shape is pretty much a futile effort.

    I am going to be on the road for the next few days (going to the Big Reno Gun show), so my replies here will be spotty until next Monday. I will also be visiting my good friend Roger Kurtz (Roger's Winchester Restorations) on Monday, and will ask him about his rates for a Model 1895 barrel.

    I believe this gun would be a carbine and we don't need an original barrell just need a brl. that will shoot. Thanks

    Actually the Montana Rifleman in Kalispell, MT can do it for you. Keep in mind it wont be cheap, 500 or so, probably what the gun is worth. He might consider having it rebored.

    At this point, I would recommend having the current (original) barrel relined. There are several folks around the country who can complete a high quality reline, and guarentee that it will shoot good.

    As a suggestion, have your customer "live" with the barrel.
    I am not aware of any smith that will reline a high power barrel.
    If one exists, I sure as hell would want him to proof it for me. 101
