Nickle Finish on 45 slide

i bought an about new slide on eBay, of course it was listed as stainless steel <-- cant expect descriptions to be too accurate)
can i remove this crappy finish? its not a nice finish as seen on colt slides. i would rather it be blued if its not a great undertaking.

  I DO expect auction descriptions to be accurate. I suggest that you return it for a refund (& ask the seller to refund shipping both ways), if it's not too late.
  
  But, if you decide to make the best of it....
  
  Plating can be removed by the same process that applied it. Brownell's sells a chemical kit, but, for 1 item, it might be cheaper just to pay your local auto plating company to do the job. But, odds are that you won't have a very nice base under the nickel; if you don't pay a professional to polish the slide for you, the bluing may look as bad as what you have now.

  It can be removed by electolytic method. Basically, with the right solution and anode/cathode configuration you can transfer the nickle to another item in the tank. A mild nitric acid solution also dissolves nickle if I remember correctly.

  I bought the Brownell kit (about $40) and it works well. Kit contains enough to de-nickel a dozen or more guns. Takes from a few hours to couple of days in the solution to remove all the nickel. Leaves a bare gray steel surface, that as stated above, would want to be polished some before being blued. Hope this helps.
