REMINGTON MODEL 81

I have owned a remington model 81 in 300 savage for about 2 years now and I have never attempted to clean it due to lack of knowledge of how to disassemble this rifle, if anyone would be able to describe the procedure for cleaning this rifle I would be very appreciative.

    I've always liked the looks of this rifle. Anyone have one??? How do they shoot? Would the 35 be the best cal to have.

    an improvement of the model 8 was available in 5 grades
    56091 mfg 1936-1950
    values 400.00 in 100% 250.00 in 90% 150.00in 60% condition this is from blue book of gun values says to add 20% for 25 cal this is from 21st edition could be worth lot more or less but give somewhat of an idea what it is worth
    32 rem was dropped after wwII and the 300 savage was added in 1940

    i dont have any books to tell what year it was mfd by ser num

    According to John Henwood's book "The Great 8 and 81" #37223 was shipped from the factory sometime in 1948. There is a production code on the left side of the barrel up where it joins the receiver. It consists of a three letter code. The first letter represents the month of manufacture; the next two letters are the year of manufacture. Go to the Remington Society website and they will have the code. And I think it is also at Remington's website too. The year code should be something like "SS" or "TT".

    Cabella's has been selling some of the calibers of ammo for the Rem's.
    but it can be somewhat expensive, considering it is in good mechanical shape.
