auto 5 questions
I recently picked up my first light 12 at an auction when i campared it to my older a 5 my older one has a friction washer on the mag tube and the light 12 does not is this normal or is it missing and are these barrels interchangeable the serial # 8g 3xxx what year was this gun made and my other H 97xxx thanks

It should have the exact same parts as your other A-5. On the lightweight gun, does it have a round knob pistol grip, or a flat knob? Depending upon which style it has, it was made in 1958 or 1968. The gun with serial number H 97xxx was made in 1956 and is a standard weight. The barrels are not interchangeable between a stanadard weight and a lightweight (at least to the best of my knowledge).

Light12, Welcome. Your "new" Light 12 should have a Bronze Friction Brake (the split piece) and a Friction Ring, in addition to the recoil spring, on the magazine tube. Bronze Friction Brake always has bevel forward on the barrel guide ring. Friction Ring always has flat face against recoil spring. Bevel of Friction Ring against Bronze Brake for Hi-Brass and against receiver for Lo-Brass.
