Alarm Guns
I have a chance to buy a collection of alarm guns & animal trap guns. Is there much of a market for these?

Not really a widespread market, but there are collectors and since they are not much made anymore, it would be better to get it than not. Personal opinion.

In the past 18 months on Gun Broker I saw exactly one question about trap and alarm guns. As Skyking said the market is limited but a serious collector will always be willing to pay good money in order to add another example to his collection (or for later sale to their collector buddies). I too would be inclined to make the purchase if it fit into my budget and then plan to resell later for (hopefully) profit.

I was recently in a small town in southern Arizona and saw one of these hanging on the wall in a bar. It was a cutdown Springfield trapdoor model. Are these worth anything? 0 -
not much value, but usage...oh yes! id set it up! a lot of people shy away from them because of the letigation if its kills or injures a friendly, i/e: home maintainance repairman, child, maid, etc... if theyre not aware of the unit set and cocked and in place. 0 -
Thanks for everyone's opinion. After giving it a lot of thought I decided to pass. The collection was into five figures and I would have had to borrow money to swing it. Could have made money but the interest would have took some of the profit if I could not sell quickly.
Just one downfall for retirement. If I were still working I would have went ahead with it.

I don't know if it's the same thing we talk about here..
But Germany still produces and uses a few Alarm guns/Alarm devices in 12 and 16 gauge - some also with 9mm Blank's or designed for 12 gauge flares.
Seen one designed for .308Win Blanks once - would scare me for sure!! or give the word Cr*p a whole new mental-picture...
Just checked the Frankonia catalogue - they only have the 12 and 16 gauge alarm-devices now.
There used to be a bigger assortment of those.
Greenlandic hunters have sometimes set up traps with a shotgun or rifle inside, with a string from a piece of sealmeat to the trigger.
If a polarbear stuck his head inside and pulled the meat - it'd get a slug in the head.
The Animal traps were usually just 1*1*5 foot wooden boxes that could be opened at the side or top.
They're banned here now though.
The guns you're looking at - might not have a use anymore, as they might not be allowed for usage.
But anywhoo.. they're interesting pieces and would possibly hold some collectors value - but they're always good pieces of conversation-starters.
Don't do anything that I've allready done - That'd be just plain STOOOOOOPID.0
