110-180 gr. 308 for whitetail under 200 yards
hi i m wondering what grain bulet to use on deer under 200 yards probably under 100 yards but not more than 200yards somthing flat and with good knockdown but not sholderpounding this is my first 308 and it has a big punch with 180hp witch i purchsed with the rem.700 in 308 i am not an avid hunter with a rifel because my state uses shotguns for deer anyway i picked up this 700 in 308 and i dont know what gr bulet to use i am thinking i would like to take that 200yard shot with a rifle first time out and drop a 10 pointer but then again a thick 4 pointer at 75yards will do just fine i know 1and1/4 oz 3" slug works grate at75yards but how does that transfre to a 308? help me anny and all thanks cj

Single shots has given you good advice. Under the parameters you stipulate, something in the 150 grain range is your best bet.
For smaller southern deer, you can go a bit less, but for northern Whitetail up to Mule deer, 150 grain is best.0 -
Anybody's 150 or 165 grain soft point will do anything you need done out to 200 yards and even beyond. 0 -
You do not notice the recoil when taking a shot on game.

Most of the 150 gr bullets will work fine. I've had good performance from the Rem 150 corelokt and the Nosler 150gr Ballistic Tip both of which are factory loaded.
