Remington Etronx?

I see that some of the Etronx rifles are being listed at prices that makes me somewhat interested. Does anyone have any experience with them that you could share? Where can you buy the primers for reloading. I don't see them at Midway or Grafs.

    In my opinion, they are an awesome product but fading into obscelecence anyway...

    In my opinion, it fixes a non problem and opens you up to some new ones. No experience with it whatsoever, but one thing for sure........do check out the price on factory ammo. Technically, it is an advance, but to solve what? And as bambihunter said, it may go the way of other super advanced ideas and die a slow, quiet death.

    Allegedly, what makes them so advanced is the lock speed. Supposedly, a bullet fired from an Etronix will have left the barrel before a standard gun's firing pin has even struck the primer (thus increasing accuracy by reducing shooters tendancies)
    I think many (including myself) don't like the thought of missing that "once in a lifetime" buck because the battery in my gun went dead.

    what killed the E-TRONIX...

    1. you could not reload your once fired cases, you had to by new ammo everytime. this made shooting costs higher, and severly limited bullet selection. this tended to upset most high end rifle shooters and hunters.

    2. the need to have the correct, and damn near impossible to find lithium wafer battery to power the electronic ignition feature. the batteries did not last very long. there was an attempt to change power scources to a larger, more readily available battery, but it came to late to help.

    3. some guns had bad moisture seals / waterproofing. when the soliniods / contacts / power scource / circuit board got damp, the gun ceased to function. they fixed this problem, but it did not help boost sales.

    4. the circuit board was prone to damage due to severe handling ie. dropping, shipping, etc...

    5. ammo price and availability. the cartridges cost to much, and were hard to find.

    the gun is no longer in production. all the parts and accesories have been sold to wholesalers and wharehouse distributors. they are parts orphans. the ammo is no longer produced.

    we have a case of the .22-250 50 grain ammo at the shop for collectors. if anybody needs some, and cannot locate it elsewere email me at waltsgun@aol.com for details.

    yes, the lock time from trigger brake to ignition is damn near instantaneous. its near a light speed break to bang time. this was great for moving targets.

    Thanks for the info. I thought I had read that the primers were the only difference in the ammo, but I could not find anyone that sold them. Sounds like if you have one of the rifles, you should invest in a few boxes of primers. Never know when they will quit making them. Remember the 5mm rimfire?
