Springfield Model 56
For the last 30 years I have moved this old 22 caliber rifle with me each time I did. It had never been taken care of, so I finally took it apart, removed any rust, cleaned and re-blued it. The stock was the ugliest part which I just nicely sanded until all the scratches were gone. I then stained it to the darkness I liked and coated it with a flat,clear protectant. Now that old 22 looks nice and I kind of like it.
It's a Springfield Model 56 bolt action rifle with a 5 shot clip,the information" Manufactured by J. Stevens Arms Company Chicopee Falls, Mass. U.S.A. Cal. 22 S.L. or L.R." are engraved on the top of the barrell.
The friend that gave this to me 30 years ago said it had been his Grandfathers, I was just wandering if anyone knew anything about this gun (when it was made), and if it has any value other than sentimental to me.

My info says made from 1935-48.
I own one myself, hood front sight, peep rear, steel butt plate, finger-groove walnut stock. Value wise, about $125 for a nice one.
