I read in an older reloading manual that you can substitute Comet for the polishing additive for media. Is that true and can someone tell me how much to use and how long to run the tumbler? 0 -
If this problem does not occur with new brass, it may be that you are not trimming the cases to proper length.
The .243 cases when resized will stretch, so they must be trimmed to proper length of 2.035". Yours may be a little too long thus causing a very tight fit against the face of the bolt. This might be what is causing the rubbing of shiny spots.0 -
To give you an intelligent answer on your specific gun/load combination one would have to examine both and do some experimentation--which is what you are going to have to do to get an answer. I would proceed as follows: (1) Try a different brand bullet of the same weight using Varget. (2) Try the V-Max bullet with a different powder that the manual says yields about the same chamber pressure and velocity. (3) Buy a box of factory-new unloaded brass and try your load it that, and compare the fired brass to your old reloaded brass. And, yes, some guns just don't like some loads. 0 -
It could also be that the base of the cartridge (where the headstamp is) is being beaten into the bolt face due to neck-sizing only dies being used. They won't set back the shoulder enough to compensate for the stretching when the case is fired.
Do the marks on the bolt look like the marks on the case?
If you know it all; you must have been listening.WEAR EAR PROTECTION!0 -
I just shot a few more and it seams not to happen on every case, so maybe it is the length, I also only neck size them, so as you stated, that may be the problem. 0 -
Are you seated INTO the rifling?
do you have to "crush" the shoulder on a sized case to get the bolt to close on it?
Is your ejector plunger unusually stiff?
why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....
Got Balistics?0 -
The bullet is seated to a aol of 2.65. The max aol for this load in my gun is 2.67.
It isn't any tighter of a fit than any other cartridge in my gun. And on ejection is is normal.0 -
Have you tried chambering a round and then slowly ejecting it to prove it is not rubbing the gun as suggested by your "some people" ?
As stated by most it's gonna be a process of elemination.
Also have you tried differant types of cases i.e. brass nickle
differant manufactors ? Are you getting the marks on one case from a differant man. than others? after neck sizing do you measure the case at the base? after firing did you measure the case with the mark compare to the fired case without mark?
this is only some of the things I know to check and is what I would do to solve the prob if I had it. good luck and hope this helped
let us know if the prob is solved0
