Beretta Tomcat Question

Hi,
I had to send a Beretta Tomcat back recently as large chunk had broken away from the frame and wedged in the trigger mechanism. I have had this gun less than 2 years and it has had less than 6oo rounds through it. Doing a search on the web I have found a few references to similar problems that others have had with the Tomcat, even read where someone regarded it as a 1000 round gun (good for only a 1000 rounds!) So, my question is, what can I expect from this gun in terms of reliability? I like to shoot all my guns regularly and do not expect the frame to fall apart after less than 600 rounds.
By the way I really like this little .32!

    I'd expect it wouldn't be the gun I'd want to have in a gunfight. I know a pretty big berretta nut I'll get in touch with him, and send you an email with his expertise on this. He "can't" type so he's not a GB member.

    I'm just about to buy a Tomcat, perhaps the Inox model.
    I'd expect this weapon to fire tens of thousands of rounds if necessary.

    I had a PPK/S with a broken firing pin and a broken ejector component, both within 300 rounds. Walther USA assured me these were isolated incidents.

    I'd expect it to be the same with the Beretta. You hear about the bad ones. Do you hear about the good ones as often?

    As Dave W. states, this is not the gun for a gunfight. But it is a lethal weapon, and a deterrent to anyone seeing you as an "easy mark".

    I have a Beretta 3032 that has about 300 t0 400 rounds fired thru it with no problems. Use only Fiocchi FMJ 73gr since new. Might be an ammo problem. What kind of ammo are you using? Have to agree that the gun should not come apart no matter what you feed it!!

    My TomCat has about 1500 rounds of all configurations through it at this time. It is my "all the time" carry" gun and as such, it is what I will always have if it comes to a gunfight. I use Cor-Bon hollow points in it, and am utterly confident in surviving a lethal confrontation with it.

    Thanks everyone,
    I just use regular store bought Winchester ammo. I hope this is a
    one off thing as I do like this little gun. I hit what I shoot at and would not worry (normally) about it being the only gun I had to hand!

    We have had some probs with this gun also here in the shop. Slide came off on two different people and was sent back.

    I have one of these, and the problem ihave had is that the safety plunger pops out every 50-100 rounds or so. The pistol will still work, but the safety won't stay on. Due to the way that the grip panels fit to the pistol and the safety, if you take the grip off, the safety comes out, and I simply can't put it back together.

    That aside, it ALWAYS works, and I have never had a misfire, fail to feed or eject.
