    Specific data on serial #s & dates of assembly are pretty much non-existent for M1 carbines. However, based on the high #, yours was probably made late in the war.

    It's really difficult to "restore" an M1 carbine. I would just try to find a good USGI barrel from any of the manufacturers.

    Here's a little help for you: Underwood-Elliot-Fisher #'s 6099689-6199688 Quantity 100,000 (in that serial # block) total produced by Underwood for the war was 545,600, 11/42-4/44. Good bet yours was made in 1944, since it's near the end of their production. Percent of rarity is 9.0%.
