Difference between an 870 and Wingmasters?

2 years ago I bought a Remington 870 Express pump at K-Mart for $229. Other than the plain Jane wood and the matt black metal, is there any mechanical or qualitative difference between the Remington 870 Express and the Remington Wingmaster (both pumps, both 12 ga.)?

    Both are 870's, so I'd guess they are very similar. I think the wingmaster has a longer barrel, but I'm not sure. I'd like to know the answer as well.

    Both guns are physically the same. The difference is in the finish on the metal and the wood. The parts are interchangable.

    I don't know if they have changed this on the newr 870 wingmasters or not but my older one has no plastic parts in the reciever. I've noticed that the express does have a few in it.

    For Whwarren: Thanks for the reply. So then other than cosmetic differences, I'd be wrong in thinking that moving from the 870 Express to the Wingmaster was moving up in quality. I bought it for basic hunting and such so I guess at that price, I got a deal.

    Plastic parts??? In the reciever? Is this an issue as far as reliability?

    I have not seen one with plastic part as of yet. As far as function ther is no difference. The only differences are as before stated and the feel in your hands.

    Um...I'm not real certain of this, but aren't the barrels different?
    I see in catalogs selling 870 barrels, there's footnotes stating
    non-compatablilty.

    If Im not mistaken the Wingmaster has real walnut stocks and a better blue job.By looking at mine here Im sure its real walnut and has a Gold trigger.HTH

    The wingmaster is just finished a little better. The stocks are birch or sythetic instead of walnut, and the WM blue is a high polish while the express is matte. There are some small parts that are metal on the WM and plastic on the express (like the end of the magazine that holds the spring/plug in, this also keeps a mag extension from working in an express as there are dimples that hold the plastic end in. The WM has a metal spring loaded end). They are both eaqually reliable. The WM has a little smoother action on the ones I have seen, probably due to a little more attention to detail when being finished, but I'd take either to a blind on a cold morning with no misgivings...
