Ruger Flat Top Single Action

I am aware that there is a difference between a Ruger flat top single action and other Ruger single action revolvers but I don't know how to tell the difference. Would appreciate one of you Ruger collectors helping me out with your knowledge. Many thanks. 11thcanopy

  11thcanopy, The true Ruger Flat Tops were the early Blackhawk models in .357 Magnum and .44 Magnum cals. I believe they stopped making the flat top in 1963. At that time they discontinued the perfectly flat top strap and went to one that had elevated ears on the back to protect the rear sight. There was never a flat top version of the Single Six or Bearcat.

  even thru its incorrect some people call the old 3-screw single six that has the rear sight that is only drift ajustable a flat top , as was stated above the only true flat tops where early 357 and 44 mags

  Here's a good pic (I borrowed) of a Flat Top that clearly shows the profile of the top strap that has no "ears" that were added on later Blackhawks to protect the rear sight. The rear sight body was recessed flush with the top strap on the Flat Tops.
