Mauser M71/84
One of my relatives found an old Mauser rifle in storage, and at first we couldn't identify it. Looking at the bore, we knew that this wasn't a normal Mauser K98k, or a version that uses it's standard 8mm round. After numerous trips to Gunsmiths in the local area we discovered that it was an M71/84. Which is one of the first, if not the first that Peter Mauser ever created, in 1871. Of Course the 84 means that it's a hybrid of it's '71 kindred with some differences, a tub magazine, and a cartridge of grand size (11.15x60 to be exact). My point is, allocating ammunition for this rifle has become almost impossible and I was wondering if you knew anyone, or any place where I could get some help. Thanks.

You can probably get some newly manufactured loaded ammo from Dangerous Dave of Old Western Scrounger, Montague, CA. Hold on to your wallet! Otherwise, it is pretty much a handloading proposition. Dies and Bertram (brand) brass are available from a number of sources including Huntingtons, Oroville, CA. This is properly loaded with black powder, but there are published low-pressure smokless loads. 0 -
Der Geb is correct. Retail about $60 a box. Brass, bullet molds and dies are available if you reload.
I reload for mine and after initial start up cost (around $240) my cost per box is about $25. which is the new brass cases. I cast my own bullets.
I sold a good number of boxes to recoup my investment. You can too.
