What grain 7.62 x 54r bullet for deer?????

I just bought a 7.62 x 54r and plan to use it for Northern Michigan whitetails in a couple weeks. My longest shot will be about 200 yrds, does anybody have any suggestions on what grain bullet to use and maybe a good brand name.I have 203 grain military loads right now that seem pretty accurate at 100 yrds.

    Anything 150 or heavier should be fine. Make sure they are soft points and not full metal jackets. Mil surplus is all generally fmj and not suitable for hunting large game. S&B makes a good 180 that is cheap, Norma and Lapua is also out there but not cheap, that Russian Wolf would be OK I guess as long as you got the SP variety.

    Sellier & Bellot sells 180gr Soft Point that would be pretty much ideal.

    Norma sells 150 gr. softpoint ammo that I would consider the best weight for average size deer. Remember that this caliber is about .308 level and while the 30-06 can use a 165 gr. bullet, it only adds more drop to the .308. Anyway I've killed 30 something deer with Nosler bullet in 150 grain in the .308, 30-06, and 7mm Rem. Mag. I guess that I have been very lucky, but none of the deer took more that a half-dozen steps (even one that was 345 yds). One of my buddies started out with 180 grain bullets and after having to track deer for long distances, switched to the 150 grains for his 30-06. Deer just aren't big enough animals to get full expansion out of the 180's that are meant for elk and moose.
