Model 1911-history/value
several years ago I was given a stainless model 1911 Colt. Last patent date stamped looks like Aug. 19, 1913...Also stamped is Model of 1911 U.S. Army, serial no. 474207..I am hoping someone could give me or tell me where I could obtain some history on this firearm...Also, I am curious if this pistol has any value

To my knowledge there were no Stainless 1911's made for Army use, it must be chrome or nickel plated.
If it has been plated the collector value was greatly diminished, I would say 400-500 dollars.

It was made in 1918. It may have been used during WWI, WWII, & maybe even Korea; there's just no way to know for sure. Eventually, it fell into civilian hands, & Bubba plated it; there is no way to restore it.

I agree, the serial number dates the frame to 1918, but there wer no stainless or plated pistols made then. It may have a nickle, nytex, or hard chrome plating on it. The other parts on the gun may not be from the original 1918 gun, and without looking at it, I couldn't tell you.
In any event, even if it is a refinished parts gun, the value is $300 or better in working order. If it's a well built parts guns with good gunsmith work. that value could be much more.
