Styer Rifle - More help please

I have a rifle that I received from my father - it has a mannlicher type stock and the only markings I can find on it (I haven't removed the stock) is on the left side of the receiver that reads "Styer 1907". Can anyone tell me what I have and a value (I don't want to sell it) for insurance. It is in great shape probably 95-99%. I'm also not sure what the bore is but it measured .22 so 22-250 or 22 swift??

    I believe your rifle was originally a Mexican Mauser, Model 1907 Rifle. It was Manufactured by Steyr in Austria for the Mexican military during the first decade of the 20th Century. The caliber it was chambered for was 7 x 57.
    It has obviously been sporterized. Unfortunately this has a negative effect on it's value to collectors. With out actually having seen it, it's hard to apprise. I'll make a WAG and say between $200 & $300.

    Could the bore possibly be .25.The 1907, I belive was also mfg'd for the Greek Military as the Mannlicher-Steyr[not a Mauser design]in 6.5 Mannlicher at the early turn of the century.Is the magazine a standard spring and follower, or does it load in a circular configuration[rotary].Is the rear receiver bridge solid or split to allow the bolt travel?

    It doesn't look like a Mauser (I have a Gew88) but I am not the expert. It has double triggers, rotary magazine, split bridge, it is possible it is .25

    I stand corrected! Looks like we have a real enigma here. Hangfire was right about it being a Mannlicher-Steyr. BUT, the Greek Military Rifles didn't have double triggers ( least the ones I've seen, didn't have them?)
    There was a commerical version of this same Mannlicher-Steyr made prior to the First World War. Don't know if they were marked on the receiver with a date similar to the military rifles?
    It goes without saying if this is what you have, and if it's in factory original excellent condition, it has substantial value.
    Best to get a hands-on appraisal, from a knowledgeable collector or dealer, so you will have the correct amount of insurance coverage.

    Rufe's right. forget about the Greek Military!Since you posted about the double set triggers,I think you have a real jewel.If the bbl is about 20"[and I"ll bet it is], you have a Pre WW2 Mannlicher-Schoenauer Sporting Carbine.I think its a Model 1903 chambered for 6.5X54 Mannlicher.They were manufactured by Steyr,Daimler,Puch in Austria.In the condition you describe my guess is well over a thousand dollars, maybe quite a bit more.It really is best to get a hands-on appraisal.The value would drop dramatically if it has been altered.Bob

    I live in Montana, and I am having trouble finding anyone who can apraise this for me. Can anyone recomend someone that can tell me what I have, and how much it is worth. I have received opinions from $200 to $5000. I do have pictures if anyone would like to see them - I would post them, but I don't know how. Would you recomend removing the stock and scope to look for more markings? Should there be a serial number on it somewhere? Thanks in advance for everyones help.

    These are the best pictures I've been able to find on the net of a Steyr Mannlicher contempory to yours. Although it's in the much rarer 8 x 57 chambering and might be slightly different . Also a link to the M - S collectors association. Hopefully they will be of some use to you.

    That picture is very close - mine doesn't have the checkerd stock, but the bolt, rings, triggers, etc. look the same. Thanks rufe!
    ok - I think we know what I have, now how to figure out the rest of the questions??
