Is this a Model 52 ???

I have a bull barrel target rifle that I received from my father. It apears to be a Model 52, but has no markings that state that for sure. The serial number is in the 10,000 range. Next to the serial number it does have the WP in a circle stamp that I have seen on other 52's. It is .22 and I would guess my father had it for probably 30+ years. It has a target style stock, and fancy sights. Can anyone tell me what I have? Many thanks to bambihunter for posting the pics you see below.

    Hi Mike,

    You have a model 52, looks like it was re-barrelled, that's why there is no model number on the barrel.

    If I remember the rear sight you have is a Valvar.

    Yes that is correct (sights) - any idea what this might be worth??

    Well, the 52's listed in the blue book range from $290 for a 60% gun to $3,700 for a 100% 52A. I have no idea on which one you have, but the book does list several 52 heavy barrel variants:
    52A Heavy barrel
    52-B Heavy barrel
    52-B bull gun (extra heavy weight barrel)
    52-C Bull Target

    I'd contact Winchester, I think they can run the serial number for you. http://www.winchester-guns.com/homepage/index.asp

    I hate to disappoint you, but I think that the aftermarket barrel makes the weapon just about worthless as a collector piece. As a shooter and keeper, though, it should be worth keeping.

    I completely agree with Doug... the lack of the original factory barrel absolutely kills it as a collector's piece.

    The DOM for a Model 52 in the 10,000 serial range is 1928, and it pre-dates the variants mentioned by bambihunter. It is simply a just a plain Model 52.

    If you are trying to sell the rifle, you can start by listing it here, on Gunbroker.com

    Because of the barrel, the price will be much lower, a guess would be $350-500.

    But, that is only a guess on my part.
