Merit site aperture

I have aquired a "MERIT" variable peep site aperture. It operates like a camera lense cover. Can anyone help me with application and vintage? Value? The male mounting threads are too large in diameter to fit my Lyman or Marble tang sites. Thanks

  I use one on my AR match rifle - with an Redfield Olympic sight ... it wouldn't fit my Plama sight without an adaptor ...
