A 2-7 OR 3-9 POWER BY ONE OF THE MAJOR MAKERS (I PERSONALLY PREFER BURRIS OR LEUPOLD) SHOULD COVER ABOUT ANYTHING YOU CAN DO WITH A 10/22. BTW- ANYTHING OVER 100 YARDS WITH A .22 IS REALLY STRETCHING IT- THE CARTRIDGE JUST DOESN'T HAVE THE ENERGY OR TRAJECTORY FOR THAT KIND OF THING.[:p]

For target shooting only, then I'd get something up to maybe 10x or so. For hunting, I like raised scope mounts with the open sights set at 10 yards and the scope set at 50. A lot of your target requirements might simply depend on how accurate the gun is...

I have a Bushnell 3-9 x 40 and I' quite happy with the results. I'll shoot with Federal American Eagle Hv ammo and got 2 " groups at at least 300 yard. I had to aim 3 feet high but it was fun.

A x8 - x10 powered scope would be fine for her plinking enjoyment. Tascos are perfectly servicable for this task. If she's going to spend any amount of time shooting at the 200 yd range, the scope should have fine crosshairs for easier sighting. Also, use HV ammo at those ranges - she'll get nicer groups.

If she wants to move up later, that shouldn't be an issue.

I think there may be some "missing" information in regards
    to scoping a 22.
The term "Parallax" comes to mind, in which not all 1" Rifle scopes
are going to be compatible with the different factors of a 22 rifle.
I have not the time or all the necessary information at hand to
get deeper into the "Parallax" factor.
But, then again-with A.O. (Adjustable Objective) on the scope; the parallax can be adjusted.

I bought my girlfriend a 10/22 with a scope. cant remember what i put on it, but it didnt matter. she liked the iron sights better anyway. i guess if your teaching her to shoot you might be doing her a favor just leaving it like that [:p]

I put a Bushnell trophy 4-12x40 on my 10/22 and like like it. Its got a good magnification range and a parellex ajd. I can't imagine shooting my .22 200 yards though.

I've got a 3x9x40 bushnell on a colt courier, and it does great. Can't say that I've shot it much over 125 yards though. With regular old Remington goldens it is very accurate at 100 yards.

BRECHT--- 2" GROUPS AT 300 YARDS WITH A 22 RIMFIRE????? GIVE ME A BREAK. THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE A FORUM TO HELP PEOPLE - NOT TELL TALL (OR IN YOUR CASE- MOUNT EVEREST SIZED) TALES. STICK WITH THE FACTS.[:(!]

Well thanks for all the help. I stopped by the local gun smith and he hooked me up with a good used 3x9x40. I took it out and shoot 1"-1.5" groups at 100yrds. We found a new "sport" with are 22s. We start at 15yrds with golf balls and see who can hit them at the farthest range. It is alot of fun because you don't have to keep moving the target. And to Brecht I would be happy to play the same game with you. I don't think that a 22 rimfire can hold a 2" group at 300 yrds unless your indoors.

    Thanks For All The Help
