My Glock Fell Apart!!!
Yesterday I made safe my G23 so my 5 yr old son could handle it under my supervision (ain't Texas grand!!!).
When I thumbed the slide release it hit with a bit more noise and impact than usual, but that was all that I noticed until...
Little Connor pulled the slide forward off the receiver with out using the slide release! NOT GOOD
So I checked it out- the slide lock spring is on the floor and the slide lock is no where to be found.
OK, what do y'all think-
1.Did it distentigrate, fall out, aliens took it, what?
2.Anyone else experience the same?
3.Do I find the great genius Gaston Glock and kick him in his gnads?
Good news- though out of limited warranty, local range will replace the piece and render it functioning for 'bout $10 (so they said over the phone).

I've only heard of a glock "breaking" in such a manner years ago when the materials weren't quite what they are today. How old's the pistol anyway?

How many rounds do you have through it? All things will break at some point.

I'd ask Little Connor if he swallowed anything he found on Grandpa's floor.....then I'd look around a bit more, and finally I would spent the 10.00 and get it fixed.
I know I may catch some garbage for this, but I have always worked under the assumption that droping the slide on an empty chamber is more stressful than doing so on a loaded chamber and thus not a good idea.

WELLLLL, I see the "I hate Glocks" crowd came out for the easy pickins.
Answers to the questions- it's about 2 yrs old, at least 2,000 rnds.
NEVER a malfunction before.
New Info- I called Glock. The really nice man on the phone is shippng me the the parts for free. He said I am the second person he shows having complained about this particular damage.

TD - That's just a nasty rumor being spread by the plastic gun people. Steel and walnut guns NEVER malfunction (if you keep them in the safe).

Everyone I've ever know that owns and shoots a Glock, loves them. They just aren't this old fart's cuppa tea.

Highly unusual for a problem like this. Although I don't particularily care for a Glock (It just doesn't fit right), they have a well deserved reputation for utter reliability. Glad to hear that Glock is sending you the part needed.
If it were mine, the factory couldn't fix the main problem. Glock is a fine hangun but I would always have lingering doubts about this particular guns reliability now. To me, complete confidence in my carry weapon is essential.

Here we go again...... The fans and non-fans of Glocks have spoken.
As we all know, any mechanical device can fail, and everyone likes certain pistols for whatever reason.
Some people dont like Glocks because they are partially made of polymer. Thats what they said about the M-16 when it first came out, with the exception of it was plastic rather than polymer. Well, we all know how "unsuccessful" that design was.
Well, Iam obviously a Glock fan. I use them at work and for competition. I have seldom had failures with them out of the many thousands of rounds I have put through them, and those can usually be attributed to ammo or magazines.

Glock isn't my favorite either but I do respect the design. After all, before Gaston Glock and his "plastic guns" the best we could get was an aluminum alloy that we ALL know had problems with fast wear and full loads. It seems to me a couple of years ago,either Shooting Times or Guns and Ammo magazine decided to test a glock to see how it faired under extensive firing. I think it jammed after something like 3500 rounds without cleaning and damned if the unreliable thing didn't do it again after something like another 7000 rounds. Cleaning was swabbing the bore, hosing the action down with gun scrubber or some such and a shot of lube. I think they finally got sore/ran out of ammo/p.o.ed the neighbors of the range after 14000 rounds. It still shot something like a 2 1/2" or 3" group. I think they did have to replace a firing pin or spring somewhere around 8 or 9000 rounds. Mind you, they said the plastic grips were almost so hot at times it was uncomfortable to hang onto for very long.
If you like it, it shoots well for you, what's not to like?0
