I'm not sure how to break this to you but a SAR-8 is a licensed copy of the HK-91 rifle produced by Hellenic Arms of Greece. I happen to own an example and like it quite a bit. The SAR-8 is not a clone at all because these Greek rifles were produced with full HK technical assistance and not by using blind monkeys (I just love that line from KimberKid). If you have specific questions on the SAR-8 I'll be happy to pull the rifle from out of the vault and answer them for you.

Thanks Mark - I have a chance to purchase a NIB and was wondering if I should jump on it. I think you have may have just answered my question. As always you come through. Is $700 reasonable for this rifle. I noticed the forearm appeared loose, is this typical?

The loose forearm is not typical but $700 in todays market for an SAR-8 is very reasonable. Old dealer cost was well above that amount and retail was around $1200 before importation was discontinued.

Just watch out for the aluminum receiver models.

How does one determine if it has an aluminum receiver?

Mark - If I send you the serial number on the rifle, will you be able to give me any history on it?

I keep fogetting about those damned aluminum receiver versions because the steel revceivers are far more common. Hold a magnet up to the receiver and your question will be answered like magic. I can't do anything for you right now Boomer becasue I am leaving on a two week vacation early in the morning; I'm headed up the coast to Vancouver BC and then over to Idaho...sorry.

Well it turned out to be one of the aluminum receiver deals, and it was $900 and not $700 as I originally thought, needless to say I passed on it. Thanks for the heads up on the aluminum receivers artvls.

I have a steel receiver and its a great rifle. I never seen the aluminum type but have only heard bad things about it. At $900 you are getting close to a steel type. Good move to pass this one up.
