gun ownership

i would like to know if my husband has been convicted with a felony, is it illegal for me the wife to own a gun and keep it in the house? even if i lock it up.

    Most parole and Federal agents would say yes. May not be fair, but that's the way it is.

    WE HAD A LOCAL MAN CONVICTED OF FELON IN POSSESION OF A FIREARM (5 YEARS) FOR LIVING IN THE SAME HOUSE AS THE FIREARM.

    In California the only way this is possible is if your husband has ZERO access to the firearm. This means that the gun must be stored under lock with only you having the combination (key locks are generally frowned on since he could find the key) and without him having any way to even get near the gun. I am away on vacation so I don't have access to the exact section of the CA Penal Code but as others have mentioned there are often harsh penalties for "supplying" a felon with a firearm.

    If you keep the gun in the house how will anyone know if it's there or not. As long as he doesn't have the gun out playing with it nobody will even know the gun is in the house except you and him. I would still make sure the gun was purchased in your name and remember when and where you purchased it. Also as mentioned before keep it secured.
    Just because he is a felon shouldn't keep you from your legal right to own a firearm. Don't take this as LEGAL ADVICE as I am not a LAWYER and wouldn't want to put you in a legal situation. JMHO ONLY.

    Also, if you make a purchase using a credit card, make sure his name is not it, even if YOU are the buyer.

    errr..... I'd really say that you need to talk to a lawyer. And I'd advise that if you are currently in possession of a firearm that you take it to a relatives house for safe storage till then. Just my advice.

    Being the staunch defender of personal freedom that I am; I would still advise you to rid yourself of any existing firearms, voting materiel, or other prohibited items that he may come into contact with.
    I only say this because if there is a felon in the house (I know, I know; but the people with the power make the rules, not me), your friendly neighborhood constables may take it upon themselves to assure a nervous populace tht there are indeed, no firearms within your domecile at any time of their choosing. Also, posting hypotheticals in this vein is another good way to attract the wrong sort of attention (if ya know whatimean).
    Definitely consult an attorney familiar with or specializing in firearms law concerning do's and don'ts around a person with the brand of Felon.
