I'm not sure, but I don't believe the Mini-30 was manufactured before the ban.

the thing that scares me is that we could be living in someone else's own reality0 -
Ya know, I think y'all are right. I know the Mini-14 was made pre-ban, but I don't recall seeing the 30. Hmmm, now I gotta look into this[;)]

The Ruger Mini-30 was introduced in 1987. It was never made in an "assault weapon" configuration, so there can be no "Pre-Ban" issue with the Mini-30. All Mini-30 rifles, no matter when made, are the same. When a particular Mini-30 was made is therefore of no importance, since the Mini-30 is not an "assault weapon." The only factory Ruger semi-automatic rifle made in "assault weapon" configuration was the Mini-14 GB, hence it is the only one that can be modified with the forbidden features now. The only exceptions to this would be non-GB rifles modified with the forbidden features before 9-13-94, and never separaated from those forbidden parts since.
Remember to be "Pre-Ban," a rifle must have been an "assault weapon" on 9-13-94. A standard Mini-14 made in 1974 is therfore not an "assault weapon" and therefore cannot be "Pre-Ban" even though made twenty years before the ban.0 -
As JudgeColt has stated. (Judge, you need to keep a prepared comment about the "pre-ban" issue so you can post it everytime the question is asked--which seems to be quite often.)
I have two Mini-30's with Butler Creek pistol-grip folding stocks--I owned them in that configuration prior to the 1994 "assault weapon" ban; they would be considered to be "grandfathered" and legal "assault weapons".0 -
This is all confusing to me.
So, you could take a brand new Mini-30, put on a pistol grip folding stock, hi-cap mag, flash hider with bayonet lug... and you would have a legal weapon that is not a banned assault rifle?????
My head hurts, again.
This may be the only thing that cou;d possibly make me buy a Mini-30!![V]

Only if you did so prior to the ban.
". . . let me forget about today until tomorrow"0 -
How could it be done before the ban if the weapon didn't exist until after the ban??
Or... is that the point?

Doug, as JudgeColt stated, the Mini-30 was introduced in '87. Therefore, a gun made from '87 until '94 (when the AW ban was enacted) that ALSO had the affected parts already installed would be considered grandfathered... Anything made after the ban was enacted couldn't have possibly been made prior (duh) so therefore would be illegal with certian parts.
Does that explain it?0
