Personally, I'd say it is above the 30-30 and below the 30-06... It is just a little hotter than a .308, remember it is a 7.62x51.
They are nice rounds (nice balance of recoil to velocity/energy), it'd do a 200 yard shot just fine if you do your part.

With all due respect to Bambihunter, the 6.62 X 54R cartridge is not less than, but IDENTICAL in ballistics to the 30/06. Look it up in OLD Stoegers where, when loaded domestically it was know as 7.62 or .30 "Russian".

7.62x54R (Russian), 7.92x57 (Mauser), 7.7x56 (Arasaka, Jap), 303British, 30-06 and 308Win are, for all intents and purposes, the same class of cartridge powerwise.

Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.

30-06 has an identical case capacity to the 7.62 russian. Some brands of brass have an even larger capacity. Try the S&B 7.62x54 from Cheaperthandirt.com for $8 a box it is the best ammo out there for the MN's. It uses the correct .310 dia projectile also, is Non corrosive and reloadable.

My border collie is smarter than your honor student.
