CCP Weapon

I'm looking at attending a class for learning to fire CCP. From what I've read a 9mm or 9X21 is the smallest caliber allowed, and it appears from the NRA web site that I need to address shots from 7yards to 25 yards. What type gun does the trick for this?

I assume .38 snub is out, and no scope. Would a Glock be OK or do I want to stay with a single action pistol like a 1911 .45? I have several weapons to choose from and the class just asks for a centerfire and 150 rounds of ammo.

Bobski, if your out there, this is up your alley (but I only have a .22 in Hi-Standard). Your recommendation? Revolver/Semi, caliber, length of barrel?

    If you post this in General discussion this topic will go through the roof!! But the bottom line will be bullet placement with a gun you feel comfortable with, this could take lots of research on your part, and handling of weapons in the gun store too. I'm sure I'll get chewed on for saying personal preferance and what you shoot well with are important, but everyone has an opinion. That's just mine. I prefer a short barreled wheel gun, in 357 magnum, but I have no qualms what ever carring my browning hi-power in .40. I might suggest taking the several guns you have to choose from and go through all the basic drills w/them at every distance between 7 yards and 25 yards. I'm a lefty so I lean more towards the wheel guns, but that's just a general rule for me, and I don't even stick to it religiously.

    Bullet placement number 1.

    Number 2. Ability to carry the weapon concealed.

    What ever you go with let us all know, and thank you for joining the ranks of the armed citizen. What ever gun you end up carrying regularly shoot it lots, every time you go to the range put bullets through it. (See opinion number 1)

    for all you other guys, i just copied my email to geeguy.................'close combat is 'make believe kill people' stuff. its fast and bangy bangy
    bang.
    youll be best armed with a combat style gun i/e: 9mm: glock, sig, beretta,
    etc...
    stay away from wheel guns and leave the 22's home!
    reason 9mm semi's are good is..they are designed to shoot 'point of aim.' no
    figuring hi or low hold points, basically, put the front sight on it and
    bang. most, if not all combat guns are sighted in for 15 yds. its the
    distance in which most combat engagements occur. (15yds and under.) ccp is a
    game where youre not given time to measure your shot or get your breath. its
    instinct shooting. aim and bang. sometimes youre taught not to even look at
    the sights! just come up and bang. mag changes are part of the game too. you
    need a gun that can change mags, fast! in a life threatening situation, its
    a life saver....but its not my idea of retired military relaxation and fun
    shooting! been there, done that!
