FN Forty-Nine 9mm.

Anyone have any experience with these pistols? They are polymer frame, stainless slide, DAO pistols. My local dealer got a couple in at a very cheap price. Are they still making them, or is the cheap price because they are discontinued? How reliable, etc.? He got them at less than $200 a piece. He hadn't decided on a retail price when he was closing yesterday.

    I see that the gun is still listed on their website(nice site, by the way). Maybe they are just slow movers. Does anybody own one?

    Good friend of mine owned one, hammer spring broke on him twice. He fixed it the 2nd time & sold it off.

    I got to the range today to my new FN Forty-Nine .40 S&W and ran 100 rounds of factory Winchester ammo through it with absolutely no malfunctions. I used the "USA" in 165gr (50) and 180gr (50). There was a slight preference for point of aim with the 180's. The trigger is similar to a Sigma and is the only drawback to the gun that I see so far (on the heavy side)!! The grip design is comfortable and recoil was very manageable at 25yds at first it was difficult to keep 10 shots in a 10" circle off hand (trigger). At 7yds rapid fire I could keep most shots in a 3" group with an occasional tendancy to shoot low, again heavy trigger. Overall I would recommend this as a high quality, low price firearm and would be great for home defense or plinking where pinpoint accuracy is not required. Toward the end of the 100rd session I was learning the trigger and was somewhat more able to control grouping at 25yds. In spite of the trigger I am amazed at the quality/price ratio of this pistol, I would rate it well above a Sigma but about even with a Ruger P series, but better looking, though this is really more of a Glock Clone it's trigger doesn't compare favorably. One last tidbit that pleased me, In all 10 clips fired the pistol piled the brass neatly is about a 10" cirle slightly behind to the right, and not one ejected case hit me!! That's my pet peeve with my Ruger P 97 brass everywhere and one will hit me once in a while. ******************************************

    Update I have now fired 200 rounds with no failures, the trigger is still on the heavy side, but I still highly recommend this gun.
