six shooter---how I finally hit target

About six months ago I purchased a AWA Longhorn .357 magnum western revolver. Unfortunately, it only had a simple blade front sight and no rear sight and I could not hit anything with it. The other day as I was shooting I told an elderly man at the range that I wished I had never bought the gun as I could never hit anything. He said he had been shooting a western six shooter for years and could he shoot mine and make a suggestion. Well, to make a long story short, he shot it and all six bullets were in a tight group but very far from the center of the target. He said to file off the top of the blade until my elevation was correct (it was shooting about 6-10 inches low) Then he said to very carefully put the gun in a vice and take a block of wood and hammer and knock the front sight to the left to move the point of impact to the right until the windage was correct (it was shooting 8-10 inches to the left of target) I did it and it worked great!! I can't tell you hoe nice it is to finally hit the target in or near the bullseye every shot after 6 months of frustration. I know this post was kinda long and not too exciting but if any of you have a western action like mine and it will not hit the target you might try what I did.

    not tring to be a smart a** or sarcastic but thats kind of the way it is with six shooters,, most six shooters of that type come with a too tall front sight( easier to take it down than to built one up if you're shooting high) so you can file it down to your point of aim , and its not unusual for them to shoot left of center,, some people bend the front sight like you did , others will turn the barrel just a little to do the same thing[:D]
