    I've only purchased one of the classics, which is this year's .221 Fireball cartridge. My stock doesn't have any brass pins in it and I'll say they are there to keep the wood stock from splitting due to recoil(even though the .300 Win. Mag. doesn't kick THAT hard - they probably put them in for lawyer protection). I like the classic that I got and now wish that I had gotten either the .350 Rem.Mag. or the .35 Whelen, when they were the classic caliber a few years ago.

    thanks for the reply...i bought the gun at a good price and is new condition so i bought a remington synthetic stock for it to save the wood...stock feels very nice on the gun. tom
