Ruger Mini 14

I heard and read many pros and cons with the mini 14. I was looking to make mime more practicle with some tactical applications i.e. railings, adjustable stock, optics. What do you experts think?
Should I attempt this or should I sell it and get something else?
What aftermarket mags do you recommend?

    $350-550 depending on how fast ya wanna get rid of it, where your selling it. I bought my preban mini for $350 cash, but it wasn't stainless. Every once in a while I run into them at that price range, but its always when I just bought something else, my luck... Thats a d*mn good price to find one at though. Thats about the least you'd get for it. I have seen the occasional fool blow $550 on a well used one just cause it was preban. But thats fishing. On an honest sell I'd ask $450 and settle not less that $400 till next year.

    No such thing as a Preban Mini-14...It may have been made before the ban went into effect but it was never on the Ban List...

    I have seen Mini-14's such as you have discribed selling for between
    400-450 at gun shows in my area.

    Guns only have two enemies: Rust and Liberals....

    There is a such thing as a "Pre-Ban" Mini-14. Technically, to be able to legally add accesories such as hi-cap magazines and folding stocks, the gun would've had to have been made before the ban, making it "Pre-Ban".

    You can use hi cap mags in any mini 14 regardless when it was manufactured.

    The only Mini-14 that is an assault weapon is a factory folding stock Mini and the Mini-14GB. Section 922 "Appendix A" specifically exempts Mini's so there are no actual prebans because Ruger never sold the rifles (other than the two I mentioned) to the general public with any assault weapon features. If the rifle in question did not have a folding stock (or other banned features) installed prior to 13 September, 1994 it cannot have such a stock (or other features) installed today because you would then be creating a new assault weapon which did not exist prior to the 1994 cut off. This issue has been covered here so many times that I'm often amazed when it continues to pop up. You can use any unrestricted magazine of your choosing in a Mini-14. Post ban magazines are restricted for use and posession by LEO's, the military, and those of us who are FFL dealers. These magazines will fit into both pre and post ban rifles.
