3 1/2 slugs
My buddy is a person who thinks the bigger the better. Well he got a 12ga benelli nova last year or so and because his shotgun can shoot 3 1/2 shells he wants some 3 1/2 slugs but can't find any. We asked a local gun dealer and he said they dont make one, which is beleivable because we couldnt find any at 3 local sporting good stores. But the dealer also said that the 3 1/2 size shell was designed for waterfowling and so you'll only find it for waterfowl. To bad we bought some turkey loads in that size, so we just said okay thanked the man and said good bye. So I'll ask you guys. Do they make a 3 1/2 slugs??

I've only ever seen slugs available in 2.5" & 3" shells. I've shot slugs through my Franchi SPA8, and can't seen any reason for a 3.5" slug round, simply 'cuz the 2.5 & 3 inchers already kick like a mule. O'course, someone out there might make a 3.5, but it's not widely recognized.

the 3 1/2 was made for water fowl. the turkey loads just came to be in the last few years.
i have not seen any 3 1/2slugs and the biggest question is WHY would you want them
those would leave a mark and hurt like hell

I had seen some write-ups years ago about the 3 1/2" slugs. Apparently there was deforming of the slug before leaving the barrel, and the muzzle blast was so great that it actually made it less accurate as it imparted bad characteristics upon shooting.
I think they should make some 3 1/2" mag slugs and put in slower burning powders, dunno if'd work or not, but I think it'd be worth a try.0 -
I just switched from a 2 and 3/4 inch twelve gauge to a 2 and 3/4 inch twenty gauge to reduce the recoil. Simply cannot imagine handling a 3 and 1/2 inch slug. Would probably knock the tree stand loose as well as any tooth fillings.
But I guarantee you if someone makes them, they will sell.0 -
The reason they don`t make 3 1/2 inch slugs is because the object is to kill deer, not the guy behind the trigger. 0 -
One thing to remember with shotgun shells, whether they be loaded with slugs or pellets. MAGNUM does not nesseccerally mean more gunpowder but more shot or pellets, or in the case of slugs more lead.

I have some 3 1/2" Buck shot with 38 cal. 16 shots. Not used them yet. Best, Robert[;)]

if you shoot the 3.5 inch slugs if there are any they wont be out of a rifled barrel they dont make um yet

The other reason that they aren't out there is the fact that the majority of the 3.5" 12's are 835 and 91 mossbergs with the overbored to 10 ga bore dia. they wouldn't shoot well at all and mossberg flat out says no slugs in their standard barrels.

Most are correct here. There is no 3 1/2" slugs made for the .12ga. There are several others besides Mossberg though, Remington , Browning, Winchester , Daly several others. 0
