Colt upper
I'm in the process of selling a Colt upper, do I have to go through a dealer inorder to ship it to the buyer legally?[8]

Generally, the Receiver of the Gun with the Serial Number is the part that the BATF identifies as a "Gun" and requires it to be "Transferred" following Federal, State, and Local laws.
The Rest of the gun is considered to be "parts." If you have the gun disassembled down to where it can no longer be taken apart further, you will have a "stripped" receiver.....but it should in most cases have a serial number. This is the part you worry about.....the rest are parts.
You can ship an "assembly" without transferring it through an FFL dealer provided it does NOT contain the serial numbered receiver. Given this, the Upper assembly is treated as parts as it is not a serial numbered "receiver." Ship it to whoever can purchase it legally on their end. Hope this helps.
