New ammo design???????????

I saw an ad on the tube showing some kind of new bullet design which is heat activated. It will shoot through a 1/2 steel plate but blow up on a twenty pound hunk of meat. Damdest thin I have ever seen.

A similar hunting normal design bullet did not puncture the plate and went right through the meat?

What is this new design?

  Maybe it was Black Rhino Talon Extra Vicious.
  
  Seriously though, I don't think it's possible to make a projectile that will penetrate steel (a hard impact surface), yet expands in flesh (a not-very-hard impact), unless there's some sort of very soft lead covering a very hard pellet. The design would have to keep the outer skin or jacket extremely hard to take the rifling, yet really thin, so it would either help deform the soft lead, or peel away to let the lead expand. It helps to think of a water balloon; if you throw it at someone or something, it will splat. If you freeze it first; you could hurt someone.

  sounds great, but i dont think i'd want to have it loaded in my gun... in arizona...in august!

  I saw the same thing on the HIstory channel. It was a program on the history of bullets. The one you spoke of is a snythetic material or composite build vs the copper and lead that we use today. It did as you say, neatly through steel and exploded in chunks of meat. Very interesting!
