Browning Light 12 Auto 5 not recylcling

I was wondering if it were normal for this shotgun to not recycle with low power shells. It fires but does not eject the empty. It works fine with high power shells. The shotgun was made in 1957 and I guess they didn't have low power shells then. Does anybody know and if this is not normal any ideas on what may be wrong. Thanks Jeff

  Remove the forestock and look for a decal on the inside. It will detail the proper bushing setup for low power shells. If the decal isn't there, then look (as I remember) on the Browning site. The info is readily available.

  Nord started you on the correct path, but all you really need to do is reverse the friction ring (turn it around). And, yes, they did make light loads back then (which is why the A-5s were made with the ability to adjust for heavier or lighter loads).

  I have several auto 5 s and another solution as with one of mine I had a geasy build up on the magazine tube simply remove the forend and spring and clean the spring and magazine tube

  Jeff, You've probably got that recoil business all squared away by now but if not and your forestock no longer has the diagram:
  The bronze friction brake is always at the top with its beveled face against the barrel guide, toward the muzzle.
  When shooting Hi-Brass, the friction ring is next with its cupped face against the bronze brake then the recoil spring is against the flat face of the ring and to the receiver aft.
  When shooting Lo-Brass, the recoil spring is against the bronze brake forward and against the flat face of the friction ring, its cupped face against the receiver.
  Bert referred to this. Really the only rearrangement concerns the friction ring. When shooting Lo-Brass the ring is against the receiver, when shooting Hi-Brass the ring is against the bronze brake. The recoil spring is ALWAYS against the flat face of the friction ring.
  Light12 is absolutely right about keeping the mag tube and the friction components clean and lightly oiled.
  Jeff, my old Light 12 gobbles up 7-1/2 Lo-Brass shells in a dove field and yours should be okay when it's set up right.
