.22-250 fab nat'l info
ive been eyeing a friends gun for some time, he has offered to sell it to me for $400 (i'm allready sold on it). the gun is a .22-250 single shot bolt action;nice straight shooter. it has a stamp on the side (fab.nat.d'armes deguerre herstal begique) on the top it is stamped YII 1930. the gun is in excellent shape with a stainless steel barrel and a descent bushnell banner series scope. any input would be appreciated on the make and or value.

Your rifle was manufactured by FN for the Greek Government. There should be a crest above the "YII. 1930". Perhaps it has been removed.
What you have is a sporterized Military Rifle ( rebarreled etc. ). It's your money, if your happy with it, condition and accuracy wise,that's all that matters!
My 2 cents is that $400 is more than I would be willing to pay for a sporterized Military rifle unless it was a proven tackdriver.0 -
i thought a .22-250 was strictly a varmint rifle? i did not know that a gov't would put a gun with low knockdown power into there soldiers hands! well thanks for the input rufe-snow 0 -
When the Greek Government purchased your rifle from Fabrique National for military use, in the 1930's, it was chambered for the 7.92 x 57 ( 8 mm Mauser ) cartridge.
It was probably imported and sold in the US during the 1960's by Interarms, Century , Golden State etc. etc. still in it's original 8mm Mauser caliber.
After buying it, the original US owner decided to sporterize it and convert it to a varmint rifle by rebarreling it with a barrel chambered for the 22-250 cartridge.0
